Wi-Fi home routers - the best OS

Let's talk about operating systems for Wi-Fi home routers.

In my experience for last 20 years, worked with:

  • Dlink
  • Asus
  • Linksys
  • Zyxel
  • Keenetic
  • Xiaomi
  • ZTE
  • Huawei

Found that most stable one are some WRT Linksys models which pretty good adapter for OpenWRT router system.

If we are talking about router system - there are several on the market:

  • OpenWRT
  • DD-WRT
  • Tomato

But if we are trying to go with the biggest community and wide range of supported models - OpenWRT is the leader. Here is the website - https://openwrt.org/

The website has all necessary:

  • Download section (table content and picker page)
  • Support forum
  • Router hardware page with all knows issues
  • and etc

I need to say that OpenWRT is the thing which needs some time investigation. Not all equipment is supported. And not all modules are supported. For example, some Asus routers has proprietary drivers for Wi-Fi. So, for some models, OpenWRT is not supported a Wi-Fi function. So please take deeper consideration before going ahead with the installation. 7 times to think and 1 time to do =)

You are awesome!

That is it. Hope this short guide helped you and saved your time for the best.

Thank you for reading and see you soon.
